The first large trans-century facilities project after the establishment of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region--Hongkong Northwest Railway has commenced officially. The whole project is 53.5km long and the Phase 1 of the project includes 9 stations of 30.5km long.
The Phase 1 of the Hong Kong Northwest Railway, with an investment of 64 billion HKD, is the biggest facilities project after the Hong Kong New Airport. It will relieve the transport pressure on the East Rail and the busier surface transport after the new airport is opened, and meanwhile, the project will reduce the traveling time from Tunmen to downtown Kowloon to 30min.
