In 2008, Shanghai Port accomplished 28 million TEU in terms of container throughput, a growth by 7%, and 580 million tons in terms of total cargo tonnage, up 3% compared with the same period. Yangshan Deepwater Port contributed 8.2 million TEU, which occupies 54% of the container throughput in Shanghai Waigaoqiao Port and might achieve 12 billion TEU in the second consecutive year. It has contributed greatly to the Shanghai Waigaoqiao Port to stand second in the world in terms of throughput.
