The Southern Transport is the first highway project according to urban development strategy in Sri Lanka. The project is located in the southwest part of Sri Lanka. It starts from the Capital, Colombo, southward to the second biggest city, Galle. The project owner is the Road Development Authority of Sri Lanka (RDA).
China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd. (CHEC) has been awarded the first bid section of 34.5km long, from the KOTTAWA in the Capital, Colombo, 20km southward to connect A4, the termination is in DODAMGODA where the second bid section starts. The consultancy is the Japan Pacific International Consulting Co., Ltd. (PCI) The contract for the project is a general contract for design and construction. The roadbed is gravels and the pavement is asphalt concrete structure of 20.5m wide, 4 lanes, and 6 lines are considered in design for future expansion.
