The final handover document of the Antananarivo Ivato-Thashotsa Road (Airport Express) project in Madagascar was signed on November 5. This marked the smooth completion of the final handover of the Antananarivo Ivato-Thashotsa Road (Airport Express) project.
Dozens of guests from Madagascar and China, including Jerry Hatrefindrazana - Minister of Public Works of Madagascar, and her Excellency Guo Xiaomei - the Chinese Ambassador to Madagascar, attended the ceremony.
During the construction process, CHEC overcame the impact of the government reshuffle in Madagascar in early 2019 and the COVID-19 epidemic in 2020, and finally completed the handover through the joint efforts of various parties, which is a new achievement of the Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Malaysia for the upcoming Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.
The project starts from Thashotsa, which is located in the main urban area of Antananarivo, and ends at Ivato International Airport, which is located in the northwest suburb of Antananarivo. With a total length of 10.93 km, the project is a two-way two-lane road, and the design speed of the main section is 60 km/h. It also has 1 bridge and 26 culverts. The road is the first project completed in Madagascar with a Chinese “two concessional loan” in the past decade. After its completion, the project will reduce the travel time between downtown Antananarivo and the airport from two hours to 10-15 minutes.
